Engineer Bainomugisha Ph.DSpeaker
Engineer Bainomugisha is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Makerere University. A leading researcher and educator, he focuses on developing Computer Science-driven solutions to real-world challenges, particularly in developing country contexts.
He leads several pioneering initiatives using distributed systems and IoT technologies to address air pollution, soil monitoring for smart agriculture, and road infrastructure assessment across Uganda. His work emphasises practical, scalable innovations that improve quality of life through data and intelligent systems.
Dr. Bainomugisha holds a Ph.D. and MSc. in Computer Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, and a First Class BSc. from Makerere University, where he was recognised as Best Science and Overall Graduate. He is the Principal Investigator on multiple impactful research projects, including low-cost air quality monitoring and cloud computing infrastructure tailored to African realities. His career reflects a deep commitment to advancing computational technology, research capacity, and quality education across the continent.
