France and Uganda Strengthen Economic and Health Ties Ahead of Africa Forward Summit

FCCU joined France and Uganda leaders in Kampala to prepare for Africa Forward Summit and sign a major oncology partnership deal.

The French Chamber of Commerce Uganda joined H.E. Virginie Leroy, Ambassador of France to Uganda, for a preparatory breakfast meeting held on 7 May 2026 at the French Ambassador’s Residence in Kampala, ahead of the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi.

The meeting convened members of the Ugandan delegation set to attend the summit, bringing together government officials, business leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, and representatives from French and Ugandan companies.

Discussions centred on strengthening regional cooperation, expanding trade and investment linkages, and aligning priorities ahead of the Nairobi summit. Delegates emphasised the importance of ensuring that participation translates into tangible partnerships and measurable economic outcomes.

Among the attendees was Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation, alongside representatives from the Kenyan High Commission and members of the wider business community.

A key outcome of the engagement was the signing of an agreement between the Uganda Cancer Institute and TYLLIUM SAS to establish a Diagnostic and Oncology Centre in Mbarara, supported by the French Government. The project marks a significant step in strengthening Uganda’s cancer care infrastructure while deepening Franco-Ugandan cooperation in the health sector.

The meeting underscored a shared agenda focused on practical collaboration across investment, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. It also reflected a broader effort to align diplomatic engagement with concrete economic and social impact.

The breakfast concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment by all parties to deepen bilateral cooperation and ensure that Uganda’s participation at the Africa Forward Summit contributes to long-term regional value creation.
